Key Points:

  • Countdown to Reprice: Trump sets Nov 3 deadline → Markets ignore the deadline → Two-week violent reprice bracketing the vote

  • The Number That Broke History: National gas averaged $4.15 on Labor Day, the first Labor Day above $4 in American history, with Brent crude closing at $101.21 for the first close above $100 since May.

  • Goldman's Warning Shot: Goldman Sachs raised the probability that Brent crude breaks $120 a barrel if the current escalation pattern holds, with Persian Gulf exports still 7 to 8 million barrels a day below pre-war levels.

  • Oil's Silent Signal: Brent futures crossed $100 this week and Iran-aligned Houthis struck four Saudi cities Monday, yet the Dow closed flat as traders ignored the President's on-record 55-day deadline.

An inflatable slide popped out of Air Force One yesterday. It happened on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. The plane just sat there while ground crews scrambled to fix it.

The President stood by and took questions. That is when he said it. The war with Iran ends "right after the election." He said gas prices will start "tumbling downward." He said Iran has "very little country left."

That election is November 3rd. Fifty-five days from today.

⚡Elon Just Ignited an Energy Revolution⚡

In just 122 days, Elon Musk bypassed the American power grid entirely — building the largest private power network in the history of American industry. Hall of Fame Trader Jon Najarian says one tiny $6 billion American company is critical to every move Elon makes. See the full story here.

I can't stop thinking about this. Nobody in the press picked it up. The Dow closed flat. Oil barely moved. Brent crude sits at $101.21 a barrel. That is the first time above $100 since May.

Here's what worries me. Your money is priced like this war never ends. Every energy stock in your 401(k). Every airline hedge. Every barrel of oil. Every dollar of war insurance on a tanker. All of it assumes the missiles keep flying next year. And the year after.

But the President just gave the war an end date. He said it out loud. On camera. In front of reporters. He did not hedge. He said "immediately."

Now think about what has to happen in 55 days. Iran folds. Or he escalates hard enough to force them. Or he's wrong.

I don't think most people realize how big each of those three outcomes is.

If Iran folds, oil crashes. Airlines rip higher. Energy stocks get cut in half. Every retiree who bought Exxon this summer is left holding a bag.

If he escalates, gas goes to $5. Maybe $6. Goldman Sachs already raised the odds that Brent crude breaks $120 a barrel. Your grocery bill jumps. Your heating bill jumps. Your Thanksgiving flight doubles in price.

If he is wrong, and the war grinds on past the election, his approval crashes. It sits at 33% today. That is the floor before it gets ugly.

And the war is not slowing down. Iran-aligned Houthis hit four Saudi cities on Monday. They struck the Jazan refinery. Our Navy destroyed five Iranian tankers on Tuesday. Iran hit back at ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz. Jeddah airport had to shut down flights. Persian Gulf oil exports have crawled back to 15 to 16 million barrels a day. That is still 7 to 8 million barrels short of where they sat before the war.

Gas averaged $4.15 on Labor Day. That has never happened before in American history. Not once. Not in the 1970s. Not in 2008. Not in 2022. Labor Day gas has never crossed $4.

I get it. Presidents make promises they cannot keep. Politicians hype and duck. Everyone on cable news lies about oil.

But this one is different. Trump put a date on a war. Publicly. On camera. On a tarmac. With his own plane broken behind him.

The market is not pricing this in. Nobody knows how it ends. But now we know when the clock runs out.

The President said it himself. "Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward." Read that line again. He is telling us the price of oil in November. He is telling us what happens to our money before Christmas.

Maybe he is right. Maybe Iran folds. Maybe he pulls a deal out of nowhere. Maybe the missiles stop and gas drops to $3.

Or maybe he is wrong. Maybe the war grinds on. Maybe gas hits $5 by Thanksgiving. Maybe your utility bill jumps 20% by Christmas. Maybe your grandkids' flight home gets canceled again.

Nobody knows which one hits. Not me. Not Goldman. Not the traders at JP Morgan. Not the guys running your mutual fund.

But we all know one thing now. In 55 days, the President's own words get tested. When they get tested, every single trade in the oil market has to reprice. Fast. Violently. All at once. Your 401(k) will move on a Wednesday morning and you will not see it coming.

I keep going back to that image. A broken airplane. A President on the tarmac. A war with a countdown clock. And a reader who has no idea his money is riding on all of it.

More on this tomorrow.
